Hi, I’m Angelica!

I created Radiance College Consulting to help upcoming and current high school juniors, seniors, and their families stress less during the college application process. As a first generation college student, I experienced many “firsts” that brought along fears, uncertainty, doubt, and a ton of stress when applying to and attending college. What was critical to my success was the support system of my teachers, family, and mentors I could rely on for questions and guidance. It would be my honor to be part of your family’s support system by sharing my knowledge, skills, and heart just as others have done for me.

Over the course of my career, it has been my focus to create a positive impact on students so they feel empowered and supported through their educational journey. Since 2006, I’ve planned and managed school, community, and corporate events and have worked with hundreds of students in elementary school through college. Blending my interests in education, student development, and event management has allowed me to help students grow, stay on track, and achieve their goals.

My Background

I’ve had the opportunity to experience education in many diverse forms which has helped me become a better mentor to the students I work with. I am effective in developing positive relationships and achieving successful outcomes because I truly care and understand what it feels like to be in their position. I also understand the realities, expectations, and what it takes to be a competitive college applicant.

During my two years as a member of the Admissions Committee at Claremont McKenna College (CMC), I had the privilege of reading, reviewing, and evaluating hundreds of undergraduate applications for the classes of 2020 and 2021.  I met many prospective students and their families when I led campus tours and information sessions that allowed me to receive a full circle experience of applying to college to admitting students.

Throughout my college years, I focused on creating educational opportunities for students across Southern California to prepare them for college and a brighter future. I hosted campus visits and interactive workshops with the Latino Student Forum that supported over 700 low-income students with valuable resources to help them navigate the college process. I’ve also worked closely with students in smaller settings that required more personalized attention as a tutor to teenage mothers through the Cal-SAFE Program, undergraduate mentor in Chicano Latino Student Affairs, and co-taught 6th-graders through Pitzer College’s Leadership in Environmental Education Partnership.

My most fulfilling job was during my eight years at The Kravis Leadership Institute at CMC where I coordinated events focused on leadership development for college students, donors, alumni, and leadership researchers. However, the most special and profound part of my job was being a mentor and supervisor to 12 Institute student staff through their full college experience. I receive this same joy working with high school students as they transition into their next chapter and begin to explore who they want to become and how they want to represent themselves through their writing on their college applications.

Education & Personal Life

I was born and raised in the sunny city of San Diego, California, in a loving and supportive Latino, Catholic, military family. I attended The Preuss School UCSD for middle and high school, and continued my studies at Claremont McKenna College (CMC), where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Leadership Studies. Soon after, I pursued a Certificate in Meeting and Event Planning from San Diego State University. One of the biggest highlights of my college experience was studying a semester abroad in Rome, Italy where I studied Art History and Religion and lived with an Italian family.

In my free time, you can find me planning my next trip, walking my dog, dancing, spending time with my loved ones, or proofreading essays, job applications, and resumes for my friends and family. I owe my success to my family, husband, teachers, and mentors who have encouraged me to never give up on my dreams and to keep going even when things seem impossible.
